RENTING AN AIRSTREAM
WOW!! These things are so cool! How do I rent one?
'Just click here if you're interested in hiring one or two trailers, or click here if you want to enquire about booking the Airstream Village. We just need some simple details then we’ll get straight back to you.
Do you deliver anywhere, anytime?
Yep! Pretty much.
Do you do special requests?
Absolutely, we rise to the challenge. We’ll always try and accommodate your wishes – however bizarre, elaborate, romantic or plain silly.
Can we tow ourselves?
Fraid not. In our experience, that’s when accidents can happen. We like to take the hassle and responsibility from you. That said, we are looking into the whole self hire operation where we would supply an appropriate 4x4.
What is the pet policy?
Sorry, we really love dogs, but some of out other guests don’t.
What is the smoking policy?
Smoking strictly prohibited! Get some patches!!
What size are they?
Check out the 684 spec click here
ACCESS
How are they delivered?
Single airstreams are generally delivered by a 4x4. Multiply airstreams generally by a HGV with one loaded and one towed. This combination can be up to 60 foot long.
Will it go through my gate?
The airstream is approx 8 foot wide, so realistically a minimum of 9 foot is essential. However this is assuming that the trailer can get ‘square on to’ the gate. Narrow, single track roads for example will need a much wider span, if in doubt, ask.
What about height restrictions?
The airstream is 2.9m high, so be aware of low branches or protruding bushes. These could damage the polished exterior, our highly experienced drivers may decide to abort the delivery if there is likelihood of damage to the airstream or towing vehicle. All monies paid will be forfeited.
What other site restrictions are there?
Any access onto your site must be level, flat and of suitable density to take the weight of a towing vehicle and airstream. The airstreams are very low to the ground and any slight incline may result in grounding the unit. If required, it is the renter’s responsibility to provide suitable portable trackway to the immediate vicinity of the unit on both the commencement and termination of the hire.
Can you tow across grass?
It depends on how wet the grass is! It is possible that tyre marks will be left. We are not responsible for making good any damage caused to the ground.
What about collecting the unit?
We will always endeavour to give you (and stick to) a collection time on site. For operational reasons this may not happen, this does not negate the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that full and restriction free access is provided. Waiting charges of £50p/h will be incurred.
CAMPING
Do I need to have prior camping experience?
All renters receive a 30 minute walk through orientation to the airstream unit and its equipment, so, no experience needed.
What do I need to bring?
Toiletries, clothes packed in a soft collapsible bag, food and a sense of adventure. Check out whats in my airstream & what we suggest you bring!
What do we do if it’s raining?
Contemplate life, chill out, or watch Die Hard 4 on DVD.
THE AIRSTREAM
How do we know how everything works?
We want you to enjoy your airstream experience for that reason we strongly recommend that we do a ‘handover’ to the end user or a responsible, designated person. Much thought and care has gone into making everything as user friendly as possible, but there’s no substitution for actually being shown. A very comprehensive handbook is provided which covers every aspect.
What happens if something goes wrong?
There is a trouble shooting section in the handbook. However, we do offer technical support on the phone for something more serious.
Is there a TV?
You bet, there’s two, one in the bedroom, one in the seating area.
What about picture quality?
Generally its good, it all depends on topography etc.
Can I bring my ipod?
Yep, we are currently working with B&O to provide a bespoke entertainment system, inc. downloadable movies and music for you to enjoy.
Can I charge my mobile phone?
Of course, think of your airstream as a boutique hotel on wheels.
Are airstreams hot in the summer and cold in winter?
Air con keeps you deliciously cool in summer and full wet system central heating keeps you toasty in winter. Don’t take our work for it, check out the Aga ladies article.
Is there an awning with the airstream?
There is, it’s a lovely place to sit when the sun goes down. The awning MUST be retracted even in moderate winds, as this causes damage.
How many will it sleep?
The 684 will sleep 4, click here to view floor plan, 2 in the double bed (or 1 each in twin bed version) and then the seating area quickly converts into additional sleeping for 2 more. There is a sliding screen separating the sleeping area. Obviously we need to know how many are sleeping in your airstream in order to provide more bedding. The 532 sleeps 2, click here to view floor plan, the bed is easily made by converting the seating area.
How big is the bed?
Good question, it’s larger than a full size double, slightly smaller than a queen on the 684 and very comfy.
WATER, ELECTRICITY & GAS
Do we need mains services?
Electricity is essential and widely available on camp sites. ‘Boondocking’ as Americans call it is not advisable! (aka ‘wild camping’ in UK). The limited battery power available even with solar panels will be rapidly exhausted by the demand for power. Generators are readily available through national hire companies.
What power does an airstream require?
The maximum power loading is 26amps. However this is with all appliances switched on and allows for the initial air-con start-up power demand. In general usage a domestic 13amp supply will suffice, however we strongly recommend that you provide for the maximum power requirment to ensure trouble free usage.
We supply a 25 metre power cable, with options of male blue round plug or UK 3pin plug.
What about mains water?
This is advisable if possible as this negates the need to continually refill the 45litre water tank.
Where does the waste water go?
The ‘grey water’ (waste from shower, washroom & kitchen sink) drains into a removable tank that requires emptying. It maybe possible to allow this water into a nearby drain, but check with the relevant authority first.
What about toilet waste?
The loo is a vacuum style loo, similar to those on an aeroplane. The waste is collected in a cassette style tank under the unit. A warning light inside the washroom indicates when it requires dumping. Many of our guests choose to use on-site facilities where available to avoid ‘getting involved’ with the loo cassette! Where’s your sense of adventure? We ask that if you do decide to use the loo, please empty and rinse the cassette of its contents before you vacate the airstream.
Is it a proper flushing loo?
Its more like an aircraft style loo than your loo at home. For this we would need access to mains drainage. Due to the portable nature and usage of airstreams this is more than often not available.
This bespoke system works fine, but it is imperative that no foreign objects are flushed down the loo as this will cause malfunction.
Why do we need gas?
The gas supplies the cooker, fridge and has a supporting role heating the water to reduce the electricity consumption.
Is gas safe?
All gas appliances are checked by Corgi registered service engineers in accordance with current regulations. Detectors are situated inside the airstream. Don’t forget gas has been used in the caravan industry for over 50 years. There is an isolation switch available if you are concerned.
Does it come with full gas bottles?
Yes.
How long do the gas bottles last?
This depends entirely on usage.
What happens if we run out of gas?
You will need to source your own replacement.
Are we charged for gas used?
Nope, we let you off with that.
SECURITY
What stops an airstream being stolen?
We leave the trailer with an anti-theft device, there is also satellite tracking available.
What about insurance?
We can arrange this at an extra cost, otherwise this is your responsibility.
Is there a deposit required?
Definitely, any breakages or damage will be charged. There is a comprehensive inventory of all fixtures and fittings with the unit which is checked before and after hire. We want to keep out airstreams in superb condition for our next guest. Full or part deposits will be refunded within 5 working days of collection.
